Yongsandong Sidewalk Farmer's Market (just west of City Park)

Ever wondered where to get fresh produce in Seoul? If you check out the stores, you might be discouraged by the high prices (30,000 won for a small watermelon?  Seriously?!).  But don't despair!  There are many small farmers markets all over with great local produce and reasonable prices, in season.  Some even have organic options.
Anything from tomatoes and lettuce, to chumway (a yellow Korean fruit)!
My favorite market is very close to City Park apartments (just outside Yongsan Gate 13). We have been going to this market since the summer of 2011! Every morning around 6:30 (sorry, not sure exactly when it opens, but it's always there by 7 when we head out to the bus stop), several trucks full of produce roll up and unpack right on the sidewalk (if you're walking away from Yongsan toward Ipark Mall, pass Park Towers apartments, then pass City Park.  It's on the sidewalk in front of the next block where there is currently just an empty lot).  They're there every day except Sunday and unless there's lots of rain or snow.  We all love the fresh fruits and veggies my amazing mom brings home every week (or more often if she's getting strawberries or Jeju mandarin oranges--they're so amazingly sweet and juicy that no matter how many she buys, she usually has to go back in a day or two for more).
 Asian apples anyone?
Our favorite things from the market include strawberries, watermelon, and mandarin oranges, but my mom thinks the sweet bell peppers and lettuces are great too. I can't even describe the taste of the Jeju mandarin oranges---they are so good!  The apples and pears are amazing too.  And there are even bananas!  Oh, and the best cucumbers I've ever tasted.  And sun-ripened tomatoes.  Seriously, with produce this fresh, it's almost enough to even make me start liking vegetables.

And, if you're a seafood lover, there's usually a fish guy here too, with anything from shrimp to eel to fish.
Some appetizing raw fish (-:
Some even more appetizing raw fish!
So if you're looking for a good deal on fresh, delicious produce in Seoul near Yongsan, look no further than the City Park Farmer's Market.
